Scripture Union Daily Guide 14th December 2020 – Christ, The Promised Mediator
You are reading Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide Devotional for Monday 14th December 2020. Be inspired by today’s reading. God bless you!
TOPIC: CHRIST, THE PROMISED MEDIATOR
Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual insight into the truth of your word as I study it.
Scripture: Galatians 3:15–25
Reflection:
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
MESSAGE: What truth is Paul expounding in this passage? Vv.15–18 contains the fourth of Paul’s arguments referred to yesterday. It is an argument from the fact that the covenant of promise was made long before the law. The law did not come to set aside the promises made to Abraham. Christ is the Seed, or Offspring, referred to in v.16.
Look up the quotation in Genesis 22:18. Paul’s emphasis is on the fact that salvation is in Christ alone. However, the law was not purposeless. See vv.19–20 for its purpose. The promise to Abraham came directly from God (Genesis 12:1). How does this compare with the giving of the law? (See Exodus 20:18–21).
Our people say, “When the cat enters the house, all rats must disappear.” The law served as a schoolmaster until Christ came that we might be justified by faith (v.24). Now that Christ has come and has died for us, we should no longer seek to hang on to the law. It has served its purpose fully (v.25).
⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Practice/Word Application:
• Meditation: Our justification is in Christ and in him alone.
Prayer:
• Thank God for delivering you from the slavery of the law and sin (Romans 8:2).
• Praise Him for His love in keeping our families together in unity, and in meeting our spiritual and material needs.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Luke 6:19
